Three Month Goals
...how on earth is it almost February yet it also feels like January has been fourteen months long?
Can someone explain to me why January feels like forever?! I’m still getting used to writing ‘2025’ while simultaneously feeling like this month - this year - has been going on forever!
I didn’t make any writing goals when the first rolled around. Not strong ones, anyway. I didn’t have the energy or mental capacity to plan. I was emotionally spent and knew it was a bad idea. So I sat on it for a bit. Because I do believe goals are a good idea. They help me focus and remember what I really care about accomplishing in this life.
So, without further ado, here are my top three goals for the first three months of 2025.
Also, I reserve the right to alter these if need arises…
Finish my current WIP
In case you didn’t know, I’m working on a fairytale mystery retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. It’ll be a shorter read, just like A Curse of Feathers & Fools is. I was hoping to finish the first draft by the end of January. However, in my eagerness to do that I burnt out a little and I’ve been struggling to write. So, let’s switch up the goal.
If I can finish this WIP by the end of February, I’ll be perfectly content.
Start working on book 3 again
I’ve been working on book 3 in my fantasy series for about two years now. It’s over halfway done. It’s completely outlined. Book 4 is even roughly planned. But between life distractions and shiny story idea distractions, I’ve left it hanging longer than I should have. I don’t want it to sit in drafts for the rest of eternity. I want book 3 to be finished and sent out into the world to be read.
I especially want to write it and send it off to the few kids who’ve read the first two books in my series and loved them. These kids deserve to have the series finished before they graduate highschool!
Attend my first book signing
On February 22nd I’ve been invited to attend my first book signing! I’m excited and nervous and the imposter syndrome keeps knocking.
It’ll be held at an antique store, which isn’t the most normal book signing place. But the owners have allowed me to put my books on their “local author” shelf. I’m grateful. Plus, being the unconventional location that it is kind of takes some pressure off.
I’m cautiously hopeful that it will go well. Even if I sell one book I will consider it a success. But I’m trying to be hopeful I’ll sell more than one book instead of assuming no one wants to read what I write.
Update pending on how these goals go…
At some point in April, if not before then, I’ll let you know how things went.
If you’re a writer, let me know your writing goals!
If you’re a reader, let me know your reading goals!
